Mardi Gras is launching its new logo and they want LWP help!
The Sydney Mardi Gras has a brand new vision, and will be launching its new logo and brand to reflect these exciting changes. The Mardi Gras now is all about acceptance and love, not just in the gay and lesbian community, but across all communities.

twenty10 BEACH AWARENESS DAY Sunday 23 Oct 1pm North Bondi Surf Club
Hey LWP member
LWP are looking forward to the coming summer where we can all enjoy patrols, activities and the parade. Keep in mind that as places on the parade may be tight this year due to a reformatting of the float, preference will be given to people who have joined in with other activities throughout the summer.
As mentioned a few weeks ago on the blog, LWP are hosting a beach awareness day with twenty10 this weekend. Twenty10 are an organisation that supports and works with young people, communities and families of diverse genders and sexualities. This will not only demonstrate that we can celebrate the equity within lifesaving, but that we can promote lifesaving amongst our GLBTQ brethren, and possibly get a few bronzies and hence LWP members out of it. It will be a low stress day of pointing out rips, going for a dip, showing how to use the tubes (challenging stuff) and generally wandering along the beach in the sun.
We will meet in front of NBSC at 1pm on Sunday 23 Oct and spend about two hours with the guys. Lunch (burritos) will be provided. LWP are looking at sponsoring a few of the potential recruits through their bronze course, so this is an opportunity for you to sell your club.
Let us know if you can make it, we’d love to see you on the day.

twenty10 Bronzie promotion at North Bondi 23 October 2011!!!!
With patrol season kicking off last weekend (thank goodness) Lifesavers with Pride are stretching themselves this year, to not only promote equity, acceptance and the GLBT community within lifesaving, but also promote lifesaving within the GLBT community.
The committee have engaged with twenty10, and organisation that supports and works with young people, communities and families of diverse genders and sexualities, organising a beach awareness and orientation session.
This is an opportunity for us to not only teach young GLBT people about the beach, but also encourage some to undertake their bronze medallion. Whilst we will be gathering at North Bondi, this is an opportunity for LWP members from all clubs to come and spruik their own club in a bid to attract new bronzies, and ultimately increase our LWP numbers as well.

LWP are supporting Roger Moresi (a LWP from Coogee). He is raising funds for the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service (which is no longer receiving funding from the Government – what?!?!!!). Roger is running in the City to Surf to raise funds for the Service and has a charity event at Stonewall Hotel this Thursday. Roger hopes to raise an additional $2,000 at Stonewall! He is very passionate about this and would appreciate all the support we could offer. LWP agree to go along to Stonewall and rattle some tins for Roger, in uniform of course!!!

Our very successful and solid public awareness Bunnings Mascot BBQ is fast approaching early next month on the 4th September! Any members who can offer to turn a sausage or two, squirt some sauce, place some meat in a white bun or collect some money for a few hours to help keep this great fund raiser pumping, please let us know.

WINNER!! Lifesavers with Pride wins Coveted "Mardi Gras 2011 Best Choreography" Award
At last night's (1st April 2011) Mardi Gras 2011 Awards Night, Lifesavers with Pride were awarded by the Parade Judges the "Best Choreography" award.
Congratulations to all our Lifesaver Marchers, Support Crew and Laurence Stark! It was an amazing team effort - and the judges were unanimous in the awarding us Best Choreography.
The Taylor Square performance was mentioned as being a highlight of the entire Mardi Gras Parade! They LOVED it!
Well done! A well deserved award!

Lifesavers with Pride Beach BBQ and Carnival is on Saturday, February 26, from 1pm, Tamarama Beach
Who doesn't love the beach on a hot summer day? Come and join Lifesavers with Pride for a laidback afternoon at gorgeous Tamarama Beach.
You can enjoy a delicious sausage sizzle with all the trimmings of an Aussie style beach BBQ.
Then compete in real lifesaver events.
Your heart will be racing with the following beach activities;
Run Swim Run – a 200 metre beach sprint, followed by a 200 metre swim out to a buoy, and followed by another 200m beach sprint.
Beach Flag Race – Compete with other lifesavers in a beach sprint event to collect a beach flag.
Anyone who wants to come and see a lifesaver’s sausage sizzle under the hot Australian sun need go no further than our Tamarama beach BBQ where the lifesavers will be on the sand, in the water, in their element.

Buying Tickets to Mardi Gras Party 2011? Please enter P.E.T.S. Code "APPLE"
Dear Fellow Lifesavers with Pride,
Thank you to all of you that have been quick to sign-up for the Parade! We are going to have the best time EVER - that's guaranteed!
Of course, the same night after the Mardi Gras Parade, is one of the BIGGEST dance parties Sydney puts on! Mardi Gras Party 2011!
Good news is that Mardi Gras wants to donate $10 from your Mardi Gras Part 2011 ticket towards creating the Lifesavers with Pride Float!
All you need to do is quote "APPLE" as the P.E.T.S. (Parade Entrant Tickets Scheme) code when you buy your ticket - whether it be online, over the phone, or in person!
That money will go towards truck hire, generators, costumes and our rolling centre-piece we are building ourselves.
It's easy - when buying your Mardi Gras Party Ticket - be sure to choose/ask-for the ticket that includes the $10 float allocation. You pay NO extra than the normal ticket - you just get to have $10 of the ticket money allocated towards creating the Lifesavers with Pride float.

Last Chance to Try-On Swimwear Sizes for Mardi Gras before they Get Custom Made
Hey Lifesavers with Pride
Wow! This year we have had the fastest growing sign-up on record! And places in the parade are almost full!
As mentioned in previous emails, aussieBum are our proud sponsor and have given us samples of each size for men and women.
They are making a custom batch of swimwear for us - so you must know your size for when we collect the information in the coming week.
What size are you? Well, the aussieBum sizes are a rather body hugging form fitting cut. As they say "if you have any doubts" about your size in aussieBum sizings ... then PLEASE come try them on at either of the following slots:
1) WEDNESDAY MORNING - 8am to 1pm, Wednesday 26th January - North Bondi SLSC - AT PATROL TENT - Patrol 13 are on Patrol and will be helping you get into and out of the samples :-)
2) SATURDAY NOON-to-12:30 (30 minute window) - Saturday 29th January - North Bondi SLSC - CLUBHOUSE FRONT STEPS
We will collect your sizes from you in a separate mailing - just be sure to know what size you will need - not exchanges, returns or store credits :-)
This is going to be the best Lifesavers with Pride parade event EVER!

Swimwear Sizings - Please Come Try Them On!
Our kind sponsor aussieBum is making Lifesavers with Pride a special run of swimwear for our Mardi Gras 2011 lifesaver participants.
Size is EVERYTHING! We only want to see smiles of joy on your faces, and not of pain or discomfort because you ended-up with the WRONG size swimwear.
We are especially keen that all of our female lifesavers are comfortable in what they will wear!
Please help us help you find the right size. Come try the samples on!

News: "Gay Surfers" Surf Meet - Saturday 15th January 2011
Online community of Gay Surfers called GaySurfers.net, with more than 2700 members worldwide, is putting together the first ever “GaySurfers’ meeting” in Australia.

Happy new year everyone! Welcome back and back to Mardi Gras Season 2011!
REGISTRATIONS START ONLINE HERE NEXT MONDAY (17 JANUARY 2011)
Registrations for our Mardi Gras 2011 Parade Float are about to open. And we want you back for another year!
Please register by the beginning of February.
Swimwear:
Our swimwear is being specially made by aussieBum and we MUST get sizes to aussieBum by the first week of February. This is particularly important for our female marchers. Once you register we can give you times and places to come and try the swimwear so that you get the right size. This year women will be able to choose different sizes for the top and the bottom.
What's on offer this year?
- This year will be bigger and better than ever!
- Music has been chosen and is being mixed and spliced by Jason Barry (JJJ parties).
- Laurence is back again to teach us how to dance and prance.
- Jono has his ideas about the design of the parade entry - think more centre pieces this year which go "bang"!
- We are fixing up our flags.
- Discussions have commenced with Ignatius Jones, the Parade Artistic Director, about our role in the parade. We will shine like never before!
- One of our main sponsors has offered to help us out - and we think this will make our preparations so much more fun, our events stand out and our parade entry fantastic.
We have lots to share with you - and look forward to seeing you all at the first rehearsal on Thursday, 10 February at Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club at 6.30pm.
