Mardi Gras Fair Day
It was our first Mardi Gras Fair Day as lifesavers and we were warmly welcomed. We scored a Bronze Medal in the Drag Relay Race (congrats to Grant, Nick, Josh and Drew); we put on a stellar lifesaving demonstration around the pool and were well and truly beaten in the tug of war by the Lesbian Soccer Team (commiserations to Anthony, Ronan, Ruairi, Josh, Drew and Mark).

Heroes
“Whether you are a woman, Muslim, gay or lesbian; surf lifesaving is a great way to give back to the community and make life long friendships, while also being a fantastic way to keep fit. I urge every gay and lesbian who loves the beach to find out how they can become a lifesaver at their local surf club.”
Co-float Organiser, Ruairi O’Connor of Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club.

Song Lyrics for you all to learn and later dance to...
Holding Out For A Hero
Where have all good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream of what I need
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There’s someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
Up Where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there’s someone somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like a fire in my blood
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life

Message from Surf Life Saving NT Gerneral Manager
Surf Lifesaving NT general manager Paul Dale has also endorsed lifesavers marching in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade this year.
"We are a non-denominal organisation and we are involved in all community events," Mr Dale said. "The Mardi Gras is a huge tourism event and if any of our individual members were interested in going down and joining in, they can." Mr Dale continued by saying the Territory surf lifesavers had "historical links" to the Sydney clubs. "The North Bondi and Bondi clubs actually assisted us in the 1960s by lending us equipment," he said.
