Thank-you! Mouth-to-Mouth at The Oxford a Big Hit!

A BIG BIG thank-you to everyone that made our MOUTH to MOUTH fund-raiser last Saturday a HUGE success - the venue was packed with supporters and Lifesavers! Thank-you to you all for your support in making it our most enjoyable and successful event ever! Everyone had a fantastic time dancing to Sydney's best DJ's who had donated their time - Dan Murphy, Alex Taylor and Jimmy Dee. Then at midnight, Joyce Maynge showed how to swim between sharks and lifesavers, and the lifesaver boys gave the crowd a taste of their famous best-in-show routine. Many thanks also to The Oxford Hotel for kindly making the space available! It has been a big help towards running our Mardi Gras 2011 entry!

Join us and Participate Together in CoastOut - Australia's First Gay/Lesbian Beach Festival

Hi Fellow Lifesavers,

Coast Out in Coffs Harbour is a matter of weeks away (29-31 October) and is going to be the most exciting beach festival of its kind that Australia has yet to see!

Please come and join us and be part of it - either as a Lifesaver helping out with water safety for the beach events, or as a volunteer at any of the other events, or even just as a participant in one of the many events planned over the weekend!

1) ACCOMMODATION - Plenty of options:

a) SHARED BEACH HOUSES - There are a number of places available at shared beach-houses that some of the Lifesavers have already booked. So please contact if you are in need of accommodation and we will be able to sort you out if you'd like to share a house.

OR if you have room in your house for one or two other fellow Lifesavers, then please also contact Mark.

b) ACCOMMODATION DEALS - Call 1300 369 070 which is the Coffs Coast Accom booking info line, tell them your coming for CoastOut.

Novotel Pacific Bay have deals on that weekend, their number is 1300 363 360, also tell them its for CoastOut.

Alternatively go to where they have deals you can look at online.

2) TRANSPORT - If you are driving up and have room for anyone in your car, or are looking for a lift, then please let Mark know and he'll try to match you up.

3) VOLUNTEER - Please see attached Volunteer PDF (ignore the cut-off date) and fill in you are a lifesaver and your club details in the "Applicable Skills" section. Then send it in to CoastOut as per on the form.

Message from Laurence...

Can you STILL feel it?????

Hello there Award Winning Mardi Gras Parade People!!

This is Laurence here, your choreographer extraordinaire! We WANT YOU to come up to Coast OUT in Coffs Harbour, the first ever gay weekend there on 29-31st October for a fun filled, fabulous time. There will be a beach carnival, surf tournament, BBQ and two big parties featuring Bob Downe amongst many other artists. My mate Todd is running it and would love as many lifesavers as possible to attend and hopefully do a repeat performance of the parade number when the amazing singer Tania Doko performs the song "Can you feel it" and also have a strong presence as Lifesavers with Pride. Come on, pull your speedos back on, tie up your red and yellow caps, pop on your white vans and a big smile and 5, 6, 7, 8 and away we go!!!!!!!!!

5) PARTICIPATE - Register for the Surf Competition and/or the Beach Carnival (swims, runs, relays) - See attached forms. Come join the Lifesavers relay team - send your interest to

So there you have it! Plenty of reason to get involved and have an amazing weekend on the beach to get the season started in more way than one!

PLEASE, let us know if you are going up so that we can co-ordinate the Lifesavers with Pride participation in the event - even if you only plan on attending and not volunteering! Email and let him know. Many thanks!

See you in Coffs!

Hold the Dates! What a start to Summer we have planned for you!

Hi Fellow Lifesavers,

Your Lifesavers with Pride Committee is back in planning mode for some events for the new patrolling season and for the summer.

So, please hold these dates:

Saturday, 13 November. Mouth to Mouth a club event to be held at The Underground on Oxford Street, Darlinghurst. For the night owls amongst us who like to dance to the sounds of Jason from the JJJ parties. Happy hour from 9.00 - 10.00, until late...

Sunday, 5 December. - SOS - Start of Summer. Sunday afternoon at The Beresford Hotel, Surry Hills. Slide into summer with your favourite lifesavers and for some fun with Joyce Mange as emcee and a show to be provided by, us, the Lifesavers with Pride!!! We're looking to raffle some prizes and sell lifesavers to the punters. 4.00pm - 7.00pm

Beach BBQ - date to be determined on a Saturday around lunch - most probably North Bondi SLSC - a more sedate gathering for us to reconvene and hear about our plans for the future. We're incorporating the association (boring, but necessary), we're hosting some events and need to raise money, and we are keen to hear your ideas on how we can make the Mardi Gras Festival work for all of us.

As you can imagine, your committee are humble souls who can't do it all. So, we need your help. If you can help - paint signs, photoshop, fold letters, cook sausages, dance, sing or just look good please let us know.

We are particularly interested in hearing from someone who would like to join the committee and help out with events. Speak to Mark, Jono or Michael if you want further details.

Send a return email to or call Mark Kuuse (0411 753 360), Michael Mellon (0412 746 775) or Jono Toh (0414 546 909).

Keeping it Real! Jono's Reel is Ready to Save the Day!

Final Rehearsal: Thursday 6:15pm (for 6:30pm) Media Promo Shoot (On Beach NORTH Bondi), then 7:30pm Final Rehearsal (SOUTH) Bondi Surf Club

Dear All

Well it's finally here! Our final rehearsal!

Thank-you Sally for making it all happen at Monday's rehearsal - you were amazing! Our star choreographer Laurence is back and this is the most important rehearsal to attend!

Part 1) 6:15pm for 6:30pm Dress Rehearsal & Media Photo Shoot on Beach at NORTH Bondi - Bring your AussieBums and Cap!

When: Arrive at 6:15 to get your Aussiebums or change into them
What: Dress Rehearsal on the Beach
Where: NORTH Bondi on the sand
Wear: PARADE UNIFORM (no shoes) - Change into parade gear - Aussiebums and Cap, use North Bondi clubhouse.
Who: Television (Channels 7, 9 and ABC) and Press will be taking video/photos for Mardi Gras news features! (see blog for previous years')

Part 2) 7:30pm Rehearsal INDOORS at BONDI SURF CLUB - 200m SOUTH of North Bondi - Change back into your shorts etc

COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE (AT PART 2, NOT PART 1) - Please contact us if you are not coming THURSDAY. Even if you have already told us - you must reply again! We need to do an accurate count. No reply and no show Thursday will mean no entry wrist-band for you and no marching!

Why Compulsory:

1) FINAL PART OF ROUTINE TO LEARN - This rehearsal is the most important of them all. We have NOT yet finished learning the routine, there are a number of counts of eight left!! There is a whole all-change-position steps where back quarters move to become the front quarters!

2) SHOES - YOu will get your shoes tonight! There will be those who have ordered too big and those who have ordered too small. We need everyone there so we can swap. And there is NO OTHER chance to pick them up.

3) SWIMMERS - Unless you plan to go naked, you will need to pick-up your swimmers!!!!

4) POSITIONS - You will be allocated your final position.

5) GETTING IT RIGHT - Uniform single image is what we pride ourselves in. You need to be here to get the routine in synch with everyone. It is not fair on others to just wing-it!

- Introductions
- Committee Announcements
- Parade Day Logistics
- Parade March - Do's and Dont's
- Helping Dismantle
- Parade Carnival - After Party
- Tamarama BBQ
- Laurence Stark - Choreographer - Final Part of Routine and Perfecting the Routine

.. then off to Ravesi's pub for our last drink together before the BIG day! A well deserved drink!

This is going to be the BEST Lifesavers with Pride march ever! Why? Because we have the perfect mix of the best choreographer and the best group of lifesavers ever!

Press: Make a splash with Lifesavers with Pride (SX News)

Written by Peter Hackney
Wednesday, 10 February 2010

A favourite with the crowds that throng the Mardi Gras Parade route, the Lifesavers with Pride are back in 2010 for their fourth sashay up Oxford Street, dressed in distinctive red and yellow.

This year, however, the group of gay and lesbian lifesavers wants to up the ante. While previous entries have featured a very strong contingent of Sydneysiders, this year the group wants to especially encourage queer lifesavers from outside Sydney to take part.
