Grab a buddy, pair up and volunteer just one hour of your time to selling raffle tickets.

Each volunteer gets:

–    a free ticket to the DNA pool party at the IVY (21 December 2013);

Joint LWP & ACON Bingay Event November 2013

Hi All

The LWP/Mardi Gras 2014 season is open for business! I hope everyone is excited about making this year's parade entry even more fabulous that last year (hard to imagine, I know!). As we all appreciate though, these things cost $$, and so we need to start getting ourselves organised.

This year we are mixing up some of the fundraising events -- and have added a bit of an incentive to come along and help out. We'll be progressively rolling these out, but the first one is BINGAY!

As you might recall, in years leading up to last year, LWP helps out ACON for the Mardi Gras Bingay. This is usually a huge success and we make a good deal of $$ to subsidise the cost of putting on the best float in Mardi Gras. This year, we are doing things a bit differently: ACON and LWP are joining forces over four weeks - 5, 12, 19 and 26 November - to co-host Bingay. Half the door takings are coming our way, so it is really important we support it. The good news (for some), is that we don't need too many volunteers - just 2-3 per night to work the door. What we do need though is bums on seats and some great prizes to offer.
We urgently need to lock down some prizes - anything beach/summer themed would be great. Do you work at a hotel? or a restaurant? or could offer some other service/goods? We would love to hear from you. ACON will be publicising the events from October in the gay press and through social media, and the prizes are a draw card (ie publicity for donors!)

We will also need to boost up numbers and so, I would encourage you to consider which of the nights you might consider hosting a few of your friends for a really fun night. Doors open at 7, and we will be all done by 10pm - Midnight Shift. $20 entry.

OK - and here's the kicker. For each fundraising "event" you attend (in this case, as a host of at least a few people), we will deduct $10 from your entry for the 2014 parade. YES, we are bribing you... This will also be the case for future fundraising events.

1)  Volunteering on the night(s); and/or
2)  Hosting a table; and/or
3)  Donating prizes.
Closer to the time, I will send you the link to organise tickets.

Parade DVD Viewing Night - Friday 12 April

One of our members has kindly offered for us to hold the event at his place, so many thanks to Colin. Details for the DVD night (and 15 mins of AGM formalities) are as follows:

7pm Friday 12 April 2013 at Unit 29/15-27 Hutchinson St Surry Hills

Colin’s place is in between the Beresford and the Cricketers Arms Hotel, both of which we've frequented in the past. We'll grab a few pizzas, and get a few slabs of beer, although feel free to bring your own, and settle in for a fun night. Plus the opportunity to head out afterwards for some post-post parade partying.

And don't forget to nominate for the committee, even as an unallocated committee member, where you just turn up to the committee meetings to drink, eat and laugh a lot. If the meetings were boring, even we wouldn't turn up to them.

Looking forward to seeing you all there, including paraders from year's past, as well as partners all being welcome.

Don't forget that we have our stall at Fair Day again this Sun Feb 10 and will need some people to come along between about 10am and 4 or 5pm and hang out for an hour or two to help us.

No pressure selling stuff, just really an opportunity to catch up with friends.

Bring your red and yellow but feel free to strip off and put sunscreen on passersby, or just relax and convince others that joining lifesaving is a great idea.

Our wonderful sponsor, Chapstick, is hosting a "Summer Lovin" Day at Bondi on 9 February and has asked for some LWP to turn up to join in the excitement and activities.

You'll be involved in photoshoots with media, talking to the public about the LWP, and hanging out with the Chapstick team

You are not required for long - but it would be great if you could RSVP and turn up for 2 hours:

Who wants to be in a feature film?

LWP support the feature film DROWN, which is now in production ... The film is about a gay lifesaver and how he stands up to homophobic bullying whilst respecting the life choices of others... For more information on the film, please visit the official at: http://drownthemovie.com/

The casting coordinator has put out a call for at least 5 of us to participate in a scene to be shot on Maroubra Beach ... The scene involves lifesaver beach and ocean races ... We have been warned it will be an exhausting day, but a great opportunity to have a lot of fun ...
